WOTR: The Warg Riders of Isengard

"Send out your Warg Riders!"
                                               - Saruman, The Two Towers

Sharku was the orc captain of Saruman's Warg Riders, and chief amongst the Isengard Warg riders - leading his venomous and deadly attack, Sharku's Hunters take great pleasure in attacking those who cannot defend themselves.  The Isengard Warg Riders were unleashed by Saruman to run down and attack the fleeing Rohirrim of Edoras while they were journeying to Helm's Deep. The Warg rider attack group are fast and terrifying to all who stand in their path.

I painted the warg riders for my Mordor army, but seldom use the warg riders as part of the Mordor horde, so I thought I would start looking at Isengard.  The Battlehost book for WotR shows The Warg Riders of Isengard and below are images of mine as follows:

 - Sharku (Front centre of battlehost)
 - 3 x companies of Sharku Hunters  (rear centre of battlehost)
 - 6 x companies of Warg Riders with shields (left of battlehost )
 - 6 x companies of Warg Riders with bows (centre of battlehost )
 - 6 x companies of Warg Riders with shields (right of battlehost)

Sharku is the chief of the Isengard Warg Riders, the boldest and most murderous of the vile horde of riders.  His pale skin make him stand out from his foul Isengard orc kin. Below are some close ups of my LotR / WotR Sharku model.

I love the idea of a fast moving warg army from Isengard, led by Sharku's Hunters. I have not used them in either WotR or LotR SBG, but am keen to give them a go and see how well they will perform.

Our club has a replica model of Helms deep which we need to get out and use to maybe this Warg army could take the opportunity to attack the poor Rohan people leaving Edoras for the safety of the fortress at Helms Deep before they can actually get there!

I will continue to post army lists and battlehost lists as well as battle reports as and when I complete them, so why not join the site and be kept up-to-date with my LotR SBG / WotR figures and updates.

All of the Wotr and LotR SBG armies and figures are available to use free at the East Grinstead Wargaming Club in Sussex, just pop along or email us so that we can bring an army along for you to try.  If you are new, we can teach you how to play and build up your first army. If your are a seasoned Lotr addict or Wotr veteran then come and along and join the fight!

If you are interested in WOTR, LOTR SBG, Warhammer or 40K then let us know and you can either take part or try the WOTR / LOTR SBG systems on a club day, or even help construct scenery or paint models in preparation for some huge battles coming in 2012.  Or if your club wants to take on our club we are willing to have a warhammer tournament here in Sussex, or can we can travel to neighbouring counties.

  2. Thanks for the comments - I wish we could pay for the tickets! We welcome any new or veteran players as well as those wanting to give LotR & WotR a try - we have all the scenery, figures and rulebooks... although the USA is probably a little too far!!!

    Thansk again and happy wargaming!

The warg riders come with shields - but I also used insta mold to cast some more in green stuff, it works fine :-)
